CHILDREN IN NEED FUNDING

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we have been granted three years of core funding from Children in Need, amounting to £30k in total!

This funding is to enable us to provide free and low-cost creative opportunities to all young people in Powys between the ages of 6 and 18, irrespective of their ability or circumstances, and we intend to take up this challenge with zest.

We have also been offered the opportunity by the BBC to have a free tour of their studios in Cardiff which will take place in October 2025, and there is also the opportunity to be filmed for the annual televised fundraiser, so watch this space for more details!

Abi started out as workshop leader for Juniors and quickly became involved in every aspect of our work, leading projects and helping with administration and workshop delivery throughout all three age groups.  Abi has now gone travelling in Australia but promises to keep in touch and we really hope to see her at some point in the future.  But meanwhile, we want to wish her the best of luck and also say a massive ‘Thank You Abi’ for being so wonderful!

All the staff, trustees and members of MYT are terribly sad to be losing Abi Johns who has been a really valued and integral part of our organisation for the last seven years.

Penny will continue to deliver workshops over all three groups, and we’re happy to say that our lovely Tazmin will continue to work with the Juniors and will also be involved in some of our projects.  We also have the wonderful Ella Franks who has now been with us for twelve months and who has become involved very quickly in all aspects of workshops, projects and administration.  Ella will be working alongside Tazmin in the Junior group and Penny in the Intermediate and Senior groups, as well as all the fantastic projects we have lined up for the coming twelve months, so a massive ‘Thank you’ to these two for helping us to keep MYT creative and thriving.

SUMMER PROJECT - CREATE AND PLAY

In August 2025, Montgomeryshire Youth Theatre ran an exciting two-day Create a Play project at Guilsfield Community Centre. The workshop brought together young people aged nine to sixteen who were eager to explore their own stories and bring them to life using a wide range of creative techniques including acting, movement, mask work, and creative writing.

Throughout the two days, participants were encouraged to collaborate closely with one another, building confidence and developing their imagination in a supportive and inspiring environment. They had the opportunity to try out many different roles in the theatre-making process, from performing and directing to experimenting with mime and devising original scenes. The workshop provided a safe space for everyone to express themselves, take creative risks, and discover new ways of storytelling.

The project culminated in a lively sharing session where friends, family, and members of the community were invited to see the results of all the hard work. The performances were full of energy, creativity, and originality, demonstrating just how much talent there is among young people in Powys. Each participant shone in their own way, and it was inspiring to see their stories come to life on stage through their dedication and imagination.

Well done to everyone who took part in the Create a Play workshop. Your creativity and enthusiasm truly made the event special, and it was a joy to see the incredible ideas you all brought to the stage.

FESTIVE PERFORMANCE

We are planning to put on a festive performance in Guilsfield Community Centre on the afternoon of Saturday 6th December and will let you have more details as plans unfold. will involve all three groups and will be devised by them and scripted by us, so it will be interesting to see what they come up with (we’ve never been disappointed so far)!  There will be additional rehearsals for this on the preceding two Sundays (23rd and 30th November) so please be aware of this if your child is going to be taking part.

We will also use this occasion to draw out the winners for our annual cash prize draw (£100 first prize, £50 second prize and £30 third prize) and will be asking  you to try to sell some tickets for us nearer the time, but please don’t worry if you are unable to do this, just send the tickets back!

MURDER MYSTERY 2025 – ‘LICENCE TO DIE ANOTHER DAY’

We have yet another ‘Murder Mystery Fundraiser’ under our belt, and I want to thank all the participants and volunteers/trustees/staff for their dedication and commitment to making this happen.  This year, due to the stage at Guilsfield not being accessible, we moved the event to Berriew Community Centre where it was equally successful.  With 100 audience members, a licensed bar and a hog roast the evening went with a bang and feedback has been tremendous.  Many thanks in particular to the young actors who worked so hard (they had only one week of rehearsals) to make it such a success.  Thanks also to the Trustees for making the salads and doing Front of House, JP Hog Roasts who were fantastic, Neil Saunders for doing sound and lights, David Ward for the set and Martin Creaven and his team at Berriew who were so helpful.
